Mukesh Patel College of Engineering, Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS, top right, under going renovations), Mithibai College (top left), K. In Juhu within a span of 1 KM you have the newly constructed Dr. RN Cooper Hospital (top left and bottom right). It is a Municipal Government Hospital spread over 3 acres. There are private hospitals like Criticare (right) & Sujay Hospital (top middle). Nanavati Hospital is just 2 KM away in Vile Parle West.
4. Parks
Juhu has ample of public parks such as Pushpa Narsee Park, Joggers Park, Kaifi Azmi park. If you are a fan of green open spaces, then Juhu is the place for you to be. There are privately maintained government parks at every second corner. There is a Jogger’s Park (middle left) where you can run. Pushpa Narsee Park (bottom & middle right) has a jogging track, cycling track (you can rent a cycle at dirt cheap prices), amphitheater and much more. Kaifi Azmi Park (top & middle row, center) is extremely well maintained. It is like a botanical garden with a great running, jogging & walking track.
5. Religious Institutions
Juhu has places for prayers for all religions. The Irla Jame Masjid is located in Juhu Lane (Left). The famous Iskcon Temple is also located in Juhu (top right). Juhu Church (bottom right) has gatherings and masses on regular basis. Besides these, there are several other temples for all religions including the Haveli temple for Jains.
6. Beaches
Entire Juhu borders the Indian Ocean. The famous Juhu Chowpatty (middle row – right) is a famous tourist destination. Tourist filled buses come every weekend to enjoy the beach. There is an entire beach side filled with shacks (middle row – left) serving a variety of local dishes such as chaats, gol kappas (pani poori), pau bhaji, etc. The main Juhu Beach is signified by a sculpture of the famous Maratha Warrior Shivaji (middle row – center) along with his children. There are smaller beaches like Silver Beach (bottom & top) at Juhu also, where the locals prefer to spend their evenings.
7. Entertainment
If you are a Live performance Play enthusiast then Prithvi Theater is something that you would love to go to. And guess where it is located? Yup! Juhu. Prithvi Theater was founded by the Raj Kapoor family. A visit to Prithvi Theater guarantees you sighting of a celebrity. don’t be surprised if you even see Ranbir Kapoor just hanging out there grabbing a coffee.
PVR Premiere is a multi screen theater where all the latest Bollywood as well as Hollywood movies are available. First shows are always sold out whenever you have a top tier movie is released. You can view your movies in 3D also. One big advantage is that Hollywood movies DO NOT have subtitles (for those who find them annoying)
8. Shopping
Juhu has several shopping options. Juhu Market lane (near Bus Depot) is a tremendous one stop shop for all your home needs. It has grocery stores (known as Kirana Stores), Fresco bakery, Meat shop for Mutton, Pork, Chicken (Legal battle is going on the Beef ban in Maharashtra), dry cleaners, opticians, jewelry stores, etc. You name it and it’s available.
Irla is another shopping destination. Street buyers and bargain hunters come from all over Mumbai for shopping in Irla. It is abuzz with people from 10 AM in the morning till midnight. The picture taken (top 2) were taken at 10:45 PM. You can shop for clothes, electronics, repair electronics, unlock your phones, cosmetics and pretty much anything that you can possibly think off. It is the Flea Market of Juhu. However, the main reason why people come to Irla from all over Mumbai is Alfa stores – 5 of them. They really are the ‘Alfas’ in Irla
If you are not the street shopper kind and prefer a Mall approach, then Shopper’s Stop (top left & top right) is also available in Juhu. It is in the same complex as PVR cinemas. You can shop till you can shop no more and then drop in the Movie theater. Nature’s Basket (bottom) is a world food initiative by Godrej group. You can get mostly imported food products. They have just started an online delivery system.
Juhu Tara Road is filled with all the major as well as upcoming clothing designers. Diesel, Anita Dongre, Kimaya, ALL by Pantaloon and Ritu Kumar to name a few.
9. Cafe’s, Restaurants & Late Night Eats
Juhu is the home to all the major Cafe brands, local as well as international. Bru World Cafe, Starbucks Coffee, Costa Coffee, Grain & Bagel, Cafe Coffee Day and Krispy Kreme to name a few.
As a resident of Juhu you have way too many options for restaurants. There are Indian restaurants, Italian restaurants, South Indian restaurants, Mediterranean restaurants, specialty Indian sea food restaurants, Sheesha lounges. You just have to Google the type of food you are into and boom you will get it.
However, the beauty of Juhu is the diversity of eating out places. You can have a ball of a time eating at Amar Juice Center (top left) – Mumbai’s Drive In Restaurant. You drive in your car, park on the street and they will get the food for you. Mohamed Nasir Cooperwala (top right & middle right) serves scrambled eggs, rice platters and whole set of vegetarian and non vegetarian dishes. They are open late hours in the night. You can quickly grab a late night snack at any of them. Natural’s Ice cream (middle left) is very well known for, well, Natural fruits ice creams. They are a drive-in ice cream shop. These are great places to dig in for your late night cravings after a party session.
Once again, if you do not want to get your hands dirty with the road side junk food, then you have ample of options of all night cafes and restaurants in hotels like Novotel (middle row), JW Mariott (top row), Sun and Sand (bottom row) etc.
10. Bollywood Celebrity Homes in Juhu
Praneta in Juhu is the home of two Bollywood celebrities – Vidya Balan (top – right) along with her husband Siddharth Roy Kapoor (top – middle). It is also home to Shahid Kapoor (top – left).
Ramayan in Juhu is the home to veteran Bollywood actor and BJP MLA Shatrughana Sinha (top -right) and his family. His daughter Sonakshi Sinha (top right) is making a name for herself in Bollywood. Shatrughana’s twin sons Luv & Kush are also residents (bottom right).
Krishna Bungalow in Juhu is the home of Bollywood veteran actor and Chairman of Balaji Telefilms Jeetendra (Ravi Kapoor) (bottom right). His daughter Ekta Kapoor (bottom middle) is a very well known TV serial and film producer. Son Tusshar Kapoor (bottom left) has made a name for himself in Bollywood Movies.
The powerful and famous Bachchan family (Left to right Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan & Abhishek Bachchan) currently resides at Jalsa (top right) in Juhu. Their earlier residence was Prateeksha (top left) also in Juhu. They apparently own 11 independent bungalows in Juhu.
